FUMSAN / SINCE 1965
FROM CRAFT TO INDUSTRY
The story of FUMSAN Silah Sanayii began in 1965 at a single repair bench in the village of Fum, in the Lice district of Diyarbakır. Named after the village where it started, the business was established as the first firearms manufacturing operation in South-eastern Anatolia and has been developed by the same family for more than sixty years.
That accumulated know-how — from double-barrelled shotguns to rotating bolt head, gas-operated actions, and from the patented FT12 to the magazine-fed FS series — continues today at the integrated facility in the Diyarbakır Organized Industrial Zone.
Milestones
1965
Abdurrahman Akdemir established a shotgun repair and maintenance workshop in the village of Fum, in the Lice district of Diyarbakır. At this workshop — the first firearms manufacturing operation in South-eastern Anatolia — the founder’s eldest son, Ali Akdemir, learned the trade at his father’s bench.
1981
Abdurrahman Akdemir, the founder of FUMSAN, passed away on 20 July 1981. His eldest son Ali Akdemir, who had trained alongside him at the workshop, took over responsibility for the business.
1983
Ali Akdemir produced FUMSAN’s first double-barrelled shotgun at the Lice workshop. With the machinery available at the time, the model was taken into serial production, and the business moved from repair work to manufacturing.
1993
On April 18, 1993, production was relocated from Lice to Düzce. At its new facility, FUMSAN developed and began production of Turkey’s first semi-automatic shotgun featuring a rotating-bolt-head gas-operated system. This innovation marked an important milestone in the company’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities within the Turkish shotgun industry.
2007
The factory moved to the Diyarbakır Organized Industrial Zone, returning to the land where it was founded. FUMSAN’s production continues at this facility to this day.
2009
The FT12 entered production with a patented action — a first in Türkiye. The registered design opened the period in which FUMSAN began turning its own engineering into industrial-scale products.
2018
FS20, Türkiye’s first 20-gauge shotgun with a vertical box magazine, was developed. Taken into serial production, the model opened a new field of competition in its class.
2024
The 12-gauge magazine-fed FS12 entered production, completing the magazine-fed platform family. The range is now offered with models sharing a common architecture across both principal gauges.
2025
Ali Akdemir, who led the company for more than four decades, passed away on 23 September 2025. His brother Mehmet Akdemir took over the management, restructuring FUMSAN and initiating its institutional transformation.
